Player Notes

Gerrit Cole

Cole underwent Tommy John surgery in March 2025 and will miss the entire season. The recovery timeline suggests a possible return in summer 2026, given the typical 12-18 month recovery period for this surgery, with some sources noting internal bracing might speed it up. This is a significant blow for the Yankees, who are already dealing with multiple pitching injuries. Given Cole’s age, I expect FanRanked voters will continue to drive his FRV down.

 

Shane McClanahan

McClanahan started the 2025 season on the injured list due to nerve irritation in his triceps. Luckily, it appears he avoided anything worse with his surgically repaired elbow. While there’s no specific return date, the team is optimistic it’s not a long-term issue. FanRanked voters have driven his value down recently, but optimistic managers may use this as a buying opportunity. 

 

George Kirby

Kirby was shut down early in Spring Training with shoulder inflammation, however an MRI revealed no structural damage and Kirby is expected to return in early May. Dynasty managers should evaluate his progress and make sure there aren’t any further setbacks before making any trade offers for him.

 

Drake Baldwin

Baldwin broke camp as the Braves starting catcher after an impressive spring training and an injury to incumbent catcher Sean Murphy. With a xwOBA of .415 and a 92.7 MPH average exit velocity, Baldwin is showing he can handle major league pitching despite his relatively underwhelming surface stats. He is probably gone at this point in 2-Catcher and Deep Leagues, but those in shallow dynasty leagues should have him on his radar and may want to add him to their roster to bet on regression to the mean.
